Online Community- 2 Ends of the Spectrum

I'm really starting to enjoy this community over on Bluesky. It's like twitter adjacent. Quite literally because the creator of Twitter is the creator if the site/app.

It's so cute seeing all these fantastic artists (the majority of the people I follow) posting and sharing their work. Also reposting other's work as well. I'm particularly fascinated with pixel animators at this time. So if y'all wanna recommend me any in the comments that would be great!

But I mean no one's perfect (despite what my ego wants me to believe about myself XD), it's a little isolating.

Maybe it's me not interacting with the program but only on selective nights and not every day. Or the program in it of itself. I still have no idea how 'starter packs' work. Something the social site offers to tell people about themselves. I think you have to add your followers to the list....

At least when I've tried to get through it and the program asked me to. And I'm not sure how any of my followers let alone the other people I'm following feel about being added to that.

So I was doing some sleuthing or being nosey whichever you wanna call it m'kay. And they've had

Nicknamed 'Dark side of the Moon' a pencil black and white drawing. Of a close up of what I imagined the crescent moon looked like when I was a child
Nicknamed 'Dark side of the Moon' a pencil drawing of a close up of what I imagined the crescent moon looked like when I was a child

the opposite experiences.

I've seen posts on my own home page where everyone is thriving and asking, "When did the party leave?" This particular person had hundreds of followers and mass following.

Interestingly enough the same sentiment I had with another creator had thousands of followers and following.

But the difference I found (obviously there's several factors considering the adjacent categories of content they were making) was that the 'Party' post had made at least 1,000 posts. And the 'Isolation' one had less than 200 posts.

So maybe it's the number of posts one makes?

Which would make sense, for obvious reasons. And I found within my own home page that interacting and commenting helped foster a good repour between other people online. And I found myself interacting with so many people with so many skill sets. This was before I even thought of making this post.

So within the bounds of sleuthing (nosiness talent +2) I checked between the two accounts again. The "party" had replied and commented on several others' posts and their own.

Fostering what I believe is the goal of the creators. Which is community of course. Creating little niches or groups surrounding a particular topic easier called 'Feeds'. And you can always click through them to see what vibes you're feeling that day. And it's pretty seamless to do so.

I usually keep mine on Discover, this has people you don't follow and followers on there. It's the best of both worlds. It's a great opportunity to interact with the algorithm and tell it what you want and don't want.

And just like any other program the more you interact with it the more it'll be customized how you want to. Now that doesn't mean you won't catch a few strays with new content from a topic you don't like. So just bat it away with a small 'Hide posts from me' button in the bottom right.

And I said that the social site also has an app. I have it but I hardly use the app simply because I love writing on my laptop. I think I'm partial because I grew up within the early days of Quotev and Wattpad (before those damn ads and membership shit). So I guess it's just clicked within my brain that 'writing long form of content goes with laptop'. I got no clue XD

And I guess that's where I found my love for Bluesky. When I was younger on Quotev making quizzes and writing fanfiction. It was a way I could see 'recent' posts like within that same day or week.

Besides Facebook being the most 'instant' with pushing out new content. Quotev's feed was about it. And then came along Vine and Instagram of course. But I think I'm gonna call it for the day.

I'm trying something new, so I hope y'all like it.

I'll see y'all again soon <3

Love, Grace
